"This cross-border collaboration plays out like a good conversation.
Fitting, in a mildly caustic way given our current time of Zoom meet-ups, of remote work, of live-streamed gigs, of digital hangouts, of the many ways we try our damndest to make these already over-mediated things feel less so; a little more like they’re live, in-person, connected beyond binary code. We cobble together conviviality as best we can with whatever means we have at our disposal.
Within this collaborative release, you’ll find cascading arpeggios, disembodied PA voices that carry side A forward with a contemplative air while melodic ribbons flutter through textural drifts on side B, coming to rest after a spacey kosmische closer. Similar to a canvas passed back and forth, you can observe where the new layers of colour have been added, where subtraction has been employed, you can intuit what parts are the product of mutual agreement, disagreement, compromise over the course of two sides. Throughout this engaging and listenable set of pieces, any proximity or the illusion thereof becomes unimportant - rather, it is what they’ve done with the distance that counts. The magic of pairings like this one is how physical distance is not just reduced to a mere detail, but employed as an asset; a palette with which to work from, rather than a barrier."
