From 2011, Gangloff reconciles his past as a visual artist with his ambitions as a musician, and launches himself and Frédéric Mancini into the elaboration of drums connected to home-made analogue synthesizers allowing to introduce melodies, textures, randomness and errors to the metronomic polyrhythm generated by four hands. Nine years later, the duo Deux Boules Vanille continues the torrid tribal-noise performances without ever losing sight of the desire for research, interaction and experimentation that is at the heart of the project and the raison d’être of its technicality. It is certainly this permanent need for exploration that has recently led Gangloff to reactivate Danse Musique Rhône Alpes, his solo project, and to continue the experimentation of «Alerte à Walibi», a cassette released in 2016 on the german\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e label MMODEMM.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe Danse Musique Rhône Alpes avatar is a nostalgic tribute to the commercial dance of the 90s but also to the most raw and radical forms of electronic music. A will of Gangloff to salute the regressive immediacy of plastic melodies, silly and addictive while shouting his love of direct and physical rhythmic de\/constructions. The amused\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003epromise to venerate the codes of dance as much as its evil detractors and to make D.M.R.A borrow from the most oblique trajectories of Chicago house as much as the least practicable ruts of lo-fi techno, and thus to join in the line of these electronic music of collective trance which succeeded in melting the archetypes of the popular club to noisy experiments, offering its most cathartic hours to social dance. It is thus armed with a singular instrumentarium that D.M.R.A invokes the spirits of these precocious club clichés, and its most radical counter-feet, to resurrect their absurdity, urgency and physicality in raw compositions - between false traditional music and «techno povera» - which seem to respond to a precise rite both in the performance and the recording. From 2011, Gangloff reconciles his past as a visual artist with his ambitions as a musician, and launches himself and Frédéric Mancini into the elaboration of drums connected to home-made analogue synthesizers allowing to introduce melodies, textures, randomness and errors to the metronomic polyrhythm generated by four hands. Nine years later, the duo Deux Boules Vanille continues the torrid tribal-noise performances without ever losing sight of the desire for research, interaction and experimentation that is at the heart of the project and the raison d’être of its technicality. The result is a diversion into a fairly “Pop” aesthetic whose musical content works in a fairly similar way. Four years later, the cover art's undertones are slightly darker and Guthrie hasn't aged a bit on his new passport photo. The twelve tracks of this second “People Pleaser” combine and arrange field recordings, heady loops, twists, musical quotes stuck on bedside records, recorded moments captured during travels, ghosty voices from low-fi lands, a police interview tape and imagined exotic sounds ... Guthrie could walk us for hours on his hard drive like looking at a photo album but he chose to build pieces based on this very personal sound material, much like a mixtape, with special care given to how sounds articulate, overlap and collide. He thus invites his heroes and his friends to join him in skilfully chiseled and finely edited imaginary jams.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe first to take pleasure in this “People Pleaser” is undoubtedly its author as some of his finds are enjoyably playful; we are there embarked in an addictive sound patchwork at high speed where a Balinese Squarepusher is propelled via a defective\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003ecathode ray tube in a temple where the happy marriage of the saxophone and the gong is celebrated before this too short respite is interrupted by a sustained hip hop rhythm. The multiplicity and variety of sources give the whole a very pop format\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eand the way in which Guthrie combines sounds, textures, rhythms and vocal elements quickly takes on a narrative dimension and poses this exercise between hip hop and a very personal plunderphonic, evoking as much J Dilla or RZA as the irreverent\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003einventiveness of People Like Us or Wobbly.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eWill Guthrie has never been in as good company as on a solo album, he also lists on the cover the list of friends, heroes, members of his family and countries who inspired him and to whom he pays homage \/ collage on this new disc; The twelve tracks of this second “People Pleaser” combine and arrange field recordings, heady loops, twists, musical quotes stuck on bedside records, recorded moments captured during travels, ghosty voices from low-fi lands, a police interview tape and imagined exotic sounds ... Guthrie could walk us for hours on his hard drive like looking at a photo album but he chose to build pieces based on this very personal sound material, much like a mixtape, with special care given to how sounds articulate, overlap and collide.
