Scissor Tail Records:

The first full length LP by UK based pedal steel guitarist and improviser Gary Peters. As there seems to be a slew of pedal steel guitar albums coming out in the last 5 years, this one is unlike any we've heard. There's no use of reverb pedals or ambient swells, yet it still has so much atmosphere and emotion. The majority of the compositions and improvisations are solo pedal steel guitar but there are a couple tracks with accompaniment by upright bassist Christopher Williams and pianist Veryan Weston.

Gary Peters has been quietly and prolifically releasing recordings over the years. This grouping of songs we spent about a year working towards narrowing down and mixing and I am very honored to present this album of collected pedal steel guitar works."

Gary Peters and Talk West met via the pedal steel guitar forum during 2021. This split tape showcases two different approaches to the same instrument.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eA lovely, if not haunting piece out of Scissor Tail’s stable this morning. Talk West glaze their pedal steel pieces with lonesome, glacial auras. A soft skitter of drums in the background pushes the queasy, slightly anxious lines of “Cognitive Dissonant Trance II” forward. The song is offset by a video with scenes of a maritime fire and quaint suburbia in Super 8. Riding the line between post-rock from the Chicago school and the ambient country ripples that have spread out in the past few years, this is another one to watch for uneasy calm. Talk West is an alias of Scissor Tail labelhead Dylan Golden Aycock. Talk West glaze their pedal steel pieces with lonesome, glacial auras. A soft skitter of drums in the background pushes the queasy, slightly anxious lines of “Cognitive Dissonant Trance II” forward. The song is offset by a video with scenes of a maritime fire and quaint suburbia in Super 8. Riding the line between post-rock from the Chicago school and the ambient country ripples that have spread out in the past few years, this is another one to watch for uneasy calm.
