What became the “Blurry Ant” cassette (Lillerne #117) was a slab of found YouTube clips and cassette samples—repeatedely toyed with and manipulated until a maximum level of otherworldly, beautiful damage had been achived. From this stunning mass of sounds, truly and weirdly transcendent moments would appear. This time around, Sellars is in collaboration with Jordan Obarzanek’s Body Clock project on “Wall of Junk,” made with source material collected from two live jam sessions on synths, guitar, drum machine, bass and vocals. These recordings were then independently edited and again manipulated, re-manipulated and re-re-formed into the tracks herein. A sun-damaged dashboard cassette, liquified and recast into a swirl of distorted ambience and distant guitar. Haunting melodies collapse into deep moments of airy space and rhythmic bursts—a drippy, cave-like environment as canopy over everything. To me, Jim and Jordan are making some of the most interesting compositions I’ve heard in quite some time. Melted rock’n’roll jams for the modern world.
