2003年から活動を開始し、これまでにUltra EczemaやSoft Abuse、Moniker Recordsなどから発表しているニュージーランド・アオテアロアのアウトサイダー・エレクトロニック作家Krausが、2026年9月にフィンランド・ヘルシンキの実験レーベルArtsy Recordsから50本限定でリリースしたカセットです。

ポストニューエイジ・ストレンジビーツ〜実験アンビエント11曲を収録。DLコード付属。

以下、レーベルによる解説です。

"Krausの新作アルバム『Water Music』は、南半球の春に間に合う形でリリースされた。エレクトロン社のシンセサイザーを駆使して制作された本作は、2024年の『Crystal Motors』で記録された探求をさらに発展させたものだ。

ジョージ1世による王室の船上行事に委嘱されたものではないが、この『Wassermusik』は、むしろ私たちに独自の浮力テストを行うよう誘っている。電子的に生成された昆虫の羽音や小川の泡立ち、光の閃光や視点の移り変わり、ジョギングのような脈動や甲高いファンファーレが、11曲の、彼特有の精密で簡潔、かつ輝きに満ちた小品の中で現れては消えていく。

自然な音色を模倣する要素は、自然がミニチュアで親密であり、テクノロジーが柔らかく流動的であり、不気味さが恐ろしいものではなく穏やかなものである世界を喚起するのに寄与している。この魅惑的な生態系において、孤独は創造性の生息地となり、民俗伝承は家庭生活に溶け込んでいく。

Krausは、現在の関心事の数々を挙げている。音楽的には、シンセサイザーによるフルートやボンゴ、『Planetary Peace』、マダリン・マーキーの『Puzzle Music』、フランチェスコ・カヴァリエーレの『ALATA ONDA』。また、『竹取物語』、エンヤの城、フィンランド、ジョージ・A・ロメロの『マーティン』、日本庭園、そして彼の餌台に集まるスズメたちである。"

"Here are some things I was thinking about during this period: traditional Japanese story "The Bamboo Cutter's Tale"; Enya's castle; Francesco Cavaliere's album "ALATA ONDA"; the sparrows in my bird feeder; Finland; synthetic flutes and bongos; George A. Romero's "Martin" (1977); Planetary Peace; this album's cover painting with its mysterious blue dome; Japanese gardens; "Puzzle Music" by Madalyn Merkey; and my desire to live in the forest with the elves."

"...Kraus’s new album, 'Water Music', arrives in time for the southern spring. Focused through the use of Elektron synthesisers, it extends from the explorations documented on 2024’s 'Crystal Motors'.

Not commissioned by George I for any royal floatabout, this Wassermusik instead invites us to stage our own buoyancy tests. Some electronically generated insect hum and brook bubble, light flashes and perspective shifts, jogging pulses and squeaky fanfares loom and dissolve through eleven characteristically precise, concise, and luminous vignettes.

The element emulating natural timbres contributes to the evocation of worlds in which nature is miniature and intimate, technology soft and fluid, and the uncanny gentle rather than frightening. In this enchanted ecology, solitude becomes a habitat for creativity and folklore bleeds into domestic life.

Kraus cites a constellation of current preoccupations: musically, synthetic flutes and bongos, Planetary Peace, Madalyn Merkey’s 'Puzzle Music', and Francesco Cavaliere’s ALATA ONDA; also, The Bamboo Cutter’s Tale, Enya’s castle, Finland, George A. Romero’s 'Martin', Japanese gardens, and the sparrows at his feeder.
