Edition of 100.
"This tape documents homemade solar powered analog circuits that produce sound with audio amplifiers and motors. Their sounds fluctuate along with the ebbs and flows of sunlight; a natural exploitation of the effects long known to circuit benders as power starving. This natural link informed a decision to document them through field recordings. An effort was made to treat the circuits not as instruments to be played and mastered, but as an independent environment of sound. Circuits were mic’ed with a Zoom H2 recorder, no line in. The sounds of these small machines sift together with the growls of much larger machines on the street outside, chirping birds and human voices. But the suggestion of field recording is not strict or puritanical- my urge to influence was at odds with the desire to allow the sounds to create themselves- and in both recordings I interfere with the sonic environment in different ways"
