"Full Spectrum Records presents the full-length debut from percussionist and sound sculpture artist Angel Lin: ‘all of these are in me.’

An intricate latticework of an album, ‘all of these are in me’ showcases a suite of performances that showcase Lin’s extensive range as a percussionist, incorporating sculptures, mallets, and homemade instruments sourced from tree branches, driftwood, and found recycled materials. Recorded with minimal resources on a single handheld field recorder, the sessions were conducted almost ritualistically, with elements of spiritual ceremony and spellcasting merging with Lin’s resonant explorations.

Taken at face value, one could assert that ‘all of these are in me’ is an album about reconnecting with oneself. Indeed, Lin burned out of music school and nearly quit music entirely several years ago. This album is their first attempt at ‘de-formalizing’ their practice, abandoning the rules and values of the so-called professional music world in an effort to bring the work back to something perhaps more personal. It also represents Lin’s efforts at engaging with their Chinese heritage via esoteric taoism, buddhism, and eastern spirituality, albeit with a few broad flourishes from their ongoing interest in occult studies, ceremonial magic, and western esotericism worming their way into the mix.

There is always more going on under the surface, however. Drawn by the artist, the album’s cover art features a fu talisman, a symbol taken from the powerful ancient practice of Chinese spellcasting. “The entire album can be thought of as a spell invoking the power within oneself to choose hope and life in the midst of the darkest despair,” elaborates Lin. “Each piece comprising the album explores the different emotions and internal dreamscapes one must travel through while navigating deep grief and loneliness, with the hope of emerging on the other side with one’s humanity and courage to continue living still intact.” "
