For their first full album release of 2021, Climate of Fear proudly announces “Feed Me Gently” by NY punk/electronics duo Clebs - aka Jason Nazary and Emilie Weibel. Following on the pop aphorisms of Soft Boi’s “So Nice” and the label’s 12 month tape subscription series, “Feed Me Gently” is the razor sharp debut statement from one of the most thrilling new voices in experimental music. Emerging fully formed from NY’s cross pollinating sub-terra, the duo bring a melted, improvisatory approach to hypermodern electronics. Slithery trip hop and skittering high velocity drum programming are filtered through a mutated lens; everything comes out stretched, tensile and mesmerizing. Weibel’s darkly aloof intonations wander through ruptured digital soundfields, punctuated by Nazary’s roiling free jazz drumming. Opening track “Negative Space” sets the tone, with Weibel’s pure vocal leaps dissected over a shivering swarm of high velocity percussive textures. “Wild Combo'' slips into syrupy depths, each sound tumbling over the last in a sickly cascade. “Who Might Inhabit” calls back the damp and dank deconstructions of No Wave, hovering in grimy air before launching into a coiled and searing attack. The duo is joined by Eartheater for a leaping, emotive reshaping of “Negative Space,” available as a digital bonus. Cathartic and strange, deeply ambiguous and unerringly cool, gross but alluring, Clebs’ “Feed Me Gently” is a singular work by a singular new group.
