Artist statement by JP:

"the title chosen explains not just the concept and methods behind this release, but the entire purpose for my interest in sound as a whole. for the past several years, an enthusiasm for exploring sound has subsumed my interest in creating it. for one, there is a directness between the source itself and what it expresses. two, simplicity is efficiency; the entire process was done with field recordings and tapes.

i’ve also come to a third realization, which is now a general principle in my understanding of “noise” and sound art in general: presentation over simulation. while one could use devices, gadgets or instruments to convey a certain experience of that reality, that reality could be arguably better presented directly and by itself, as its own material and representation simultaneously. for example, i found it easier to locate areas and certain types of sound or qualities of sound than to recreate or synthesize them with effects.

the reality conveyed is that the world is defined in many ways by constant sound. as we enter the anthropocene era, human-generated noise has come to define the auditory experience for most people and animals. i also found it difficult to avoid, whenever attempted, during these sessions. i kept thinking about the amount of physical waste myself and others have damaged the environment with, using equipment to create, explore and present our findings in sound. it occurred to me that when searching for areas with interesting sound qualities or just quiet, i no longer see private property as a viable option for our species. many of these locations captured were abandoned, unused properties left in a dangerous state. in some cases, i was harassed or threatened in the process."
