However, \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003eGabrielle Giuliani never abandons the isolationist atmosphere \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003ehe previously established. The result is a masterwork in Ambient \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003eIndustrial Noise.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eWinds howl, rain soaked leaves are walked on, broken branches \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003ereverberate to the abyss, and voices of unknown origin lurk in the \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003ebackground. In a sense, much of the album's noisier moments play like \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003ean answer to the soundtrack to the Jean Rollin filmed dream sequences \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003eof Jess Franco's \"A Virgin Among the Living Dead\". Given the album's \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003enamesake, one can't help to think Giuliani had Euro-horror cinema on \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003ehis mind while channeling these soundscapes.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eUnlike the suffocating characteristics of the Exile album, Giuliani \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003euses The Beyond to experiment with silence and space. Throughout \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003e\"Before Silence\" the listener is faced with seeming\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e\u003cem\u003e inactivity \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003equietly under a thick layer of fog and tape hiss. While \"Under\" will \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003eundergo prolonged moments of near silence in its conclusion. It's \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003eonly in the piercing horror feedback of the finale \"My Eyes Still \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003eSee\" which brings the listener back from the lull in what is the most \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003edisconcerting of all Drift compositions.
