Slug Net centers Allison’s practice around two distinct types of spontaneous composition: fine-grain chopping\/collaging of songs from the rock and metal traditions, and drum machine-focused electro-adjacent sessions that mutate with randomized looping strategies. If these two styles seem wildly divergent, Allison somehow makes them seem like complementary sides of the same coin. His sample collage pieces, stuffed to bursting with skewed guitar lines and finely diced drum patterns, unfold with a bizarre rhythmic logic of their own, tumbling onto themselves and latching into instances of momentary recursion as source materials are pumped through Allison’s stereo looper. However, the bulk of the year’s physical releases hosted debuts on the label- Blinkar från Norr, Wanderwelle, Gastón Arévalo, Quiet Places, Damm and Gadi Sassoon. It was a year when we embraced a few more digital releases too, as a result of Bandcamp Friday, Olga Wojciechowska, Markus Guentner and Merrin Karras sneaked in some unexpected, yet welcome music.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eOn a personal level, I was very proud to see several ASIP artists returning with second albums in 2020, and 2021 will continue this theme. In addition, we were able to release music by several artists that pushed us into slightly new and interesting directions - something I am always looking to do. Many of you will know a big part of my inspiration and passion lies in DJ’ing and classic mix CDs. If the label momentum continues and releases keep coming as planned, then each year I’d like to invite a DJ to select and mix tracks from the label - make an annual tradition out of it. I didn’t think it would be as hard as it was to whittle down tracks from this year and make something relatively cohesive and enjoyable, but I think it does a good job in showing the many styles of ambient and electronic music we like to embrace as a label, in one continuous sitting. Growing-up amongst a divided city’s bleak aftermath, alongside hedonistic tendencies that birthed the likes of Loveparade, it was easy to be both inspired and rebellious at the same time. The influences of Detroit techno and rave culture started to travel, and artists were turning to new techniques and machinery, at a time when the bedroom, started to become a studio.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eChristian would end up developing a new and unique sound, alongside a small but impactful community that eventually formed a cult artist roster on the City Centre Offices label. His background began in New Wave and Punk, eventually transitioning into DJ’ing in the early 90’s and then, into more electronic productions\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\" class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e, with Jungle and drum’n bass his first muse.
